Republican gathering at CCU
on 18-11-2009 09:32

In late October, I was invited to spend a Saturday afternoon building relationships and strengthening the Republican Party.  It was the Centennial Institute Republican Meeting hosted by former senator John Andrews and the Centennial Institute, and included republican senators and legislators from across five states.

The objective of the event was to draw out topics that cause controversy in our party.  The objective went a step further: discuss solutions to solving the controversy.

I learned several new things about major issues, issues that just aren't being debated in this country.

Near the end of the day, Senator Mike Kopp spoke on what we can do to fix our party.  Fixing the party was the topic of choice with many contributing to the answers, including several CCU students who were there.

The four answers I observed were
1) create more energy,
2) recruit younger people,
3) go back to fiscal responsibly and
4) be accountable.
In a nutshell, if our party accomplishes these four things, I believe we will not only fix our party but excel and thus serve our country.

On a side note, many of the attendees were excited to meet me, suggesting: “Mark you are what we need to move ahead.”
